Denpasar prosecutors have outlined their recommended sentence for a Briton on trial over the murder of a Bali policeman.

Prosecutors said in court on Tuesday that David Taylor should get eight years behind bars for fatally wounding Bali police officer Wayan Sudarsa on Kuta Beach in August 2016, according to reports.

Both Taylor and Australian girlfriend Sara Connor are facing three separate charges of murder, torture, and assault leading to Sudarsa’s death, with the max charge for murder carrying 15 years. However, prosecutor Agung Jayalantara said it’s become clear that Taylor did not intend to kill Sudarsa, AAP reports.

Judges don’t have to stick to prosecutors’ recommendations for their sentences.
