A 40-year-old app-based motorcycle taxi driver (locally known as ojek online or ojol for short) was arrested in Denpasar for allegedly stealing a police officer’s gun.

The ojol, identified as PRA, reportedly pretended to help a police officer who got into an accident on Jalan Sunset Road in Kuta last Saturday.

“But he wasn’t trying to help, he wanted to take the police officer’s bag. The officer was in pain and couldn’t do anything,” Bali Police spokesman Syamsi said today.

PRA reportedly stole the officer’s bag, which contained a wallet, a mobile phone and a gun, despite warnings from the officer that he is a member of the police.

The suspect was arrested on Monday at his boarding house (kost) residence in Denpasar.

Under Indonesia’s criminal code, PRA faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison for theft.
