A man in Buleleng Regency has been arrested for severely injuring his neighbor with a spear, which police believe he regularly used to hunt dogs for their meat.
On Tuesday evening in Sukasada District, 48-year-old GR was drinking with his friends at home. The suspect, KG, walked past GR’s house carrying the spear as he went dog hunting.
An intoxicated GR reportedly saw the act as a form of intimidation. Later that evening, he went to KG’s house to challenge him to a spear battle. The fight was averted by KG’s family.
However, GR returned past midnight and said he wanted to fight KG with his bare hands. This time, KG came outside and speared GR in his right arm and through his chest.
GR was rushed to Buleleng General Hospital, where he is now in critical condition.
“For now, we have established the suspect’s motive as being offended by the victim’s actions,” Sukasada Precinct Chief Made Agus Dwi Wirawan said.
KG has been charged with violent assault under the Criminal Code (KUHP), for which he may face up to 2 years and 8 months in prison. His charges may be elevated to murder should GR succumb to his injuries.
