Bali-Gili crossing closed due to extreme conditions

Tourists hoping to make the the trip between Bali and the Gili islands in Lombok are just going to have to wait.

The crossing has been closed for fast boats for two days, Feb. 7-8, as waves in the Lombok Strait have been recorded by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) as measuring more than 3.5 meters, according to local reports.

“Boat services are closed for safety purposes,” Port Operator Class II Unit head, Madhi said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Crossing activity to the Gili islands will reopen when the weather is normal again, but it’s possible the closure will be extended if the weather doesn’t clear up,” the statement said.
