Police in Denpasar say a doctor in the city almost killed himself using needles amid a marital feud.
At around 11:30pm On Dec. 2, police were called to the home of the 33-year-old doctor, who goes by the initials SCJ, and found him sprawled on the bathroom floor with blood oozing out of his legs.
Officers found two medical needles right by SCJ. Police believe that SCJ used the needles to slice his own ankles.
The victim was evacuated to Sanglah General Hospital, where he is still being treated for his injuries to this day.
Preliminary investigation into the case suggests that SCJ attempted to commit suicide right after a huge fight with his wife, 29-year-old PR. During the suicide attempt, PR had taken refuge at a neighbor’s house, and taken their child with her.
“The victim has not recovered and is still in treatment. We are waiting for both parties to be ready,” East Denpasar Police’s Crime Investigation Unit Head Erick Wijaya said yesterday on establishing a motive for the couple’s feud and the police facilitating a possible mediation session between them.
Some reports suggest that SCJ has a history of performing similar acts of self-harm.
Indonesia currently does not have a fully functioning government-run suicide prevention hotline, but if you or anyone you know is suffering from depression and/or contemplating suicide, you can get more information and resources from several local NGOs dealing with mental health and suicide prevention, such as intothelightid.org and Bali-based Love Inside Suicide Awareness (LISA) helpline at +628113855472.
