Bali cop murder suspect ‘angry’ at ‘witnesses’ for not helping officer he allegedly killed

A man accused of killing a policeman in Bali says he’s “angry” that “witnesses” didn’t step in and help the officer that he fought with on Kuta Beach and allegedly left for dead.

Take a moment to process this.

Australian press has been extensively covering the Bali trials of British man David Taylor and Australian woman Sara Connor for the murder of Bali policeman Wayan Sudarsa, whose battered body was found on Kuta Beach on August 17, 2016. Taylor and Connor are being tried separately on charges of murder, fatal assault in company, and assault causing death.

The latest revelation from proceedings is that Taylor expressed his anger at “witnesses” for not saving Sudarsa’s life.

“Many people have said that they came and saw the body on the beach. But no-one managed to call anyone to help the guy,” Taylor said outside of court on Wednesday, as quoted by AAP

Both Taylor and Connor have claimed that they didn’t realize Sudarsa had been killed from his fight with Taylor. The Briton said he left Sudarsa “passed out” and Connor had already left to search for her bag again after she alleges that the cop bit her and pulled her hair.

Connor had lost her purse on the beach that night in Kuta and Taylor started fighting with Sudarsa after a confrontation about the missing bag, Taylor has said. Connor maintains that she tried to separate the men.

Taylor says he later told Connor the man (Surdarsa) was “just passed out.”

But it’s likely that Sudarsa actually lay dying on the beach for two to four hours after the fight with Taylor, eventually succumbing to his head injuries, Dr. Dudut Rustyadi from Sanglah Hospital told the court. Rustyadi is the one who performed Sudarsa’s autopsy.

The worst part is, though, that Rustyadi told the court on Wednesday that it was “possible” for Sudarsa to have survived if he had gotten help in the two to four hours he lay dying.

Which apparently prompted Taylor to say later: “When I left the scene I even said to someone there is a guy on the beach that needs help and they didn’t help him.

“It makes me extremely sad and a little bit angry to know that his life could have been saved.”

Meanwhile, Connor was asked in her trial if she still loved Taylor, to which she responded that she did.

“I trust David, he is a calm, quiet guy,” AAP quoted Connor as saying.

“It’s not a murder case, it’s a self-defense case,” Taylor has said.

Proceedings are set to continue next week.
