Australian surfer found dead in pool at Bali villa during trip for wedding celebration, over $70k raised for repatriation

“It’s people like Tyler who make life colourful and worth living. He really was a person who, once you’d met, was impossible to forget. Not one wave will be ridden, nor beer be drank, fish be caught, or swag be rolled out without reliving a memory of Tyler that will make your heart smile,” says a GoFundMe page created to finance Kennedy’s repatriation. Over $70,000 has been raised on a crowdfunding campaign to repatriate the body of an Australian man who was found dead in a Canggu villa last week during a trip celebrating his friend’s wedding.

Queensland man Tyler Kennedy was reportedly found at the bottom of a pool on Wednesday night and could not be revived, once pulled out of the water by his close friend and surfing buddy, Jake Townsend.

Police in Bali are investigating the 31-year-old’s death.

It’s understood that Kennedy had met his friends at the Canggu villa and had been drinking there. One of Kennedy’s friends had been married just two days before, according to reports.

“When the victim’s friends were chatting and drinking, the victim jumped into the pool. After about 10 minutes, the victim was seen floating unconscious in the pool,” local police said in a statement.

By the time an ambulance arrived and CPR had already been given by his friends, Kennedy was dead.

Just two days after Kennedy’s death, a crowdfunding page called ‘Bring Tyler Home,’ was launched on GoFundMe by loved ones to raise the $60,000 it would cost to repatriate his body and “provide him with the send off he truly deserves.”

The page’s plea to “please dig deep and help his beautiful family in raising as much money as we can to get our Tyler home,” seems to have appealed to many.

The page has already surpassed its goal, raising over $70,000 as of Tuesday morning.

“Tyler was loved beyond words by all those who crossed his path and he touched the lives of so many. He had a smile that would light up a room, an adventurous and fearless spirit and the most humble, kind, huge heart,” reads the GoFundMe page.

“Tyler will be forever loved and missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. How blessed we are to have been able to call him a son, brother, uncle, nephew, loved one, mate.”
