An Australian national was found dead at his hotel room in Legian, Bali on Monday.

The exact cause of death of Dennis Francis O’Brien, 76, is not yet known, but there were no indications of violence on the man’s body, based on an external examination, police said.

O’Brien’s body has been transferred to the morgue in Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital.

“Yes, he was found (Monday) afternoon around 5:30pm,” Kuta Police Chief Wayan Sumara told Tribun Bali.

The Australian had checked in to his hotel on June 1, 2017 and was planning to check out on June 22, 2017, Sumara said.

It’s thought that O’Brien had been dead about 12 hours prior to being discovered, because a strong odor had already started to come out of his hotel room.

Police suspect the man’s death may have had to do something with his age, but cannot say more unless an autopsy is conducted.

The Jakarta Post reported that a variety of medication was found amongst the Australian’s belongings in his hotel room.

The Australian Consulate has been contacted about O’Brien’s death.
