Australian dead in Seminyak hotel room, police skeptical of alcohol poisoning allegations

An Australian tourist was found dead in his Seminyak hotel room on Saturday, after he had apparently vomited following an evening of drinking.

Despite allegations that the man died from bad alcohol, police say they suspect that it was an underlying health condition that actually caused the 56-year-old Aussie’s death.

Local newspaper Tribun Bali reported that the man had been staying at the hotel with his friend. On Saturday night, when the man started vomiting after drinking, his friend asked the hotel to contact a doctor or ambulance.

A team from Bali Clinic rushed to the hotel, but it was too late, according to reports.

“After examining the victim, the Bali Clinic doctor pronounced the victim dead. No signs of violence were found on the victim’s body. There are allegations that the victim died from drinking  adulterated alcohol,” Kuta Police Criminal Unit Chief Insp. Ario Seno told Tribun.

Adding, however, that “the exact cause of death is still under investigation.”

Denpasar Police set up a crime scene at the hotel and found a number of meds in the hotel room.

“According to the victim’s friend, who they shared the hotel room with, he had heart disease,” Seno also told Tribun.
