An Australian man is facing prison time in Indonesia after walking off with a pair of designer sunglasses from the duty free at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Charges were read in Denpasar District Court against Perth man Thomas Harman, 31, on Thursday.

Harman allegedly took a a pair of Gucci sunglasses from the international terminal on June 30, 2017, worth IDR 4,003,500 (US$296), without paying for them.

He had been flying home from a five-day holiday, but the sunglasses incident resulted in an extended stay from the man—Harman’s been in jail since then.

The Australian’s lawyer, Erwin Siregar does not deny that his client walked off with the sunglasses, but says it was a “mistake,” because it was an unconscious, nervous reaction about flying.

The man has been charged under Article 362 of the Criminal Code, according to Bali Post, which carries a maximum punishment of five years. Unlike the lyrics of the ’80s hit below, someone’s future may not be so bright.
