An Australian woman got pulled across the road in Sanur when a thief on motorbike tried to rip her bag from her.
Juliana Britto, 32, had been returning by bicycle from Sanur Beach to her hotel on Saturday morning around 10:30 am when the incident happened.
A man on motorbike driving past Britto on Jl. Kesari grabbed her purse from the front basket of her bicycle, but he didn’t realize the bag was attached to the basket, so Britto ended up getting dragged on the road for three meters.
“I was dragged for three meters,” Britto told Tribun Bali on Sunday.
“He failed because I had tied the bag to the bicycle.”
Britto says it all happened so fast.
“Unfortunately I do not remember his face and his motorcycle license plate number.”
Frustrated that he was unable to make away with the bag and apparently worried about attracting attention from local residents (we all know how mob street justice plays out in Bali), the thief gave up and fled.
“Because I fell to the pavement and got dragged, my whole body was covered in wounds. Especially on my knees, there was a lot of blood due to getting pull across asphalt.”
Britto said she wanted to report the incident to the local banjar before going to the police.
The Australian woman has decided to cut her Bali holiday short after the incident and immediately return to Oz.
“Bali is not safe anymore and is increasingly insecure,” the Aussie reasoned.
This is certainly not the first time a tourist has been mugged in Sanur. About a month ago at Jl. Duyung, Banjar Semawang, a tourist also had their bag snatched by someone on motorbike. And we can only imagine that not every case gets reported.
