A Russian tourist has reportedly disappeared after snorkeling in Karangasem, Bali on Thursday afternoon.
The Russian had been snorkeling at Bias Tugel Beach, Padang Bai when his wife panicked after he did not return for two hours.
The man’s disappearance has been confirmed by Padang Bai Water Police Insp. I Nyoman Arda.
“Correct, a foreigner is lost. The victim was staying in Denpasar. At the time of the incident, he was with his wife and kid,” Arda said, as quoted by Okezone.
A search is being conducted for the Russian, according to Arda, though a body was found not so far away in Pengalon, Manggis, Karangasem. It’s not yet been officially confirmed whether or not the body is the Russian missing from Bias Tugel.
With rough sea conditions, meaning big waves and strong currents, the Russian is not the first snorkeler to apparently get dragged out to sea this week. A Korean tourist went missing after snorkeling in Kuta Beach on Wednesday. Though a search is underway for the man, his body has not yet been found.
