An American woman has died in Ubud, Gianyar after plunging from the fourth floor of a hotel.

The 35-year-old tourist, who was identified by her initials CML, reportedly fell from the swimming pool located on the hotel’s fourth floor on Tuesday at around 6:30pm. Before the incident, CML was seen hanging out with her friend, KLH, at the pool area, where the pair ordered cocktails from the bar.

A waiter who came to deliver their drinks said they saw KLH falling into the water after leaning on and accidentally breaking a fountain statue. The waiter assured the pair that there was no problem but suggested they be careful when standing near the edge of the pool, which overlooks the ground floor.

When the waiter returned to the bar, they heard KLH scream as CML fell into a fish pond on the ground floor. It was suspected that CML fell a distance of 15 meters.

CML was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries.

Ubud Police Chief I Gusti Ngurah Yudistira confirmed the incident and said that the two friends were supposed to leave the hotel this coming Sunday.

“Based on our investigation at the scene, it is suspected that this incident was caused by the victim’s own carelessness when standing on the slippery edge of the pool,” he said.
