American man dies while snorkeling in Nusa Penida waters

Denpasar’s Sanglah Hospital says there are signs of suffocation on the body of a man known to have died while snorkeling in Nusa Penida waters, to the east of Bali.

American David Joseph had gone snorkeling near Jungut Batu, Nusa Lembongan on Tuesday when he fell unconscious and was then rushed to the nearest health center, reports Tribun Bali.

However, the 54-year-old could not be revived and was pronounced dead. From there, his body was reportedly sent to Sanglah for further examination.

Sanglah’s forensics team says they do not know the exact cause of death since the body has not gone through autopsy yet.

“Police have already visited to forensics, but they have not yet requested an autopsy. Other than that, even if they had requested one, the family’s permission is needed,” Dr. Ida Bagu Putu Alit told Tribun Bali.
