An American man, who has been identified by his initials RM, reportedly drove his car and hit dozens of people in South Kuta yesterday evening. He has since been detained by the Denpasar Police for the incident, which injured at least seven people.
A number of videos, which have since gone viral on social media, show local residents angrily chasing RM’s car and throwing it with rocks on a busy street. Unconfirmed reports put the number of victims at 22, while police said that at least 7 people were injured from the incident.

It appears that the chasing went on for a while, as one footage showed local residents chasing him on foot while another showed a group of motorcycles attempting to make RM pull over, which he eventually did.
Another footage showed angry men shouting and hitting RM, who had gotten out of his car, which was put to a stop by several others. At one point, RM stood in the middle of an angry crowd with a bloodied face and body, before a police officer arrived to arrest him.
Witnesses say they suspect RM might have been driving under the influence of alcohol, but the police have yet to issue any official statements about the incident.
