The Bali Police announced yesterday that two middle-aged foreigners are now on their most wanted list over their alleged involvement in a fraud and embezzlement case.

Bali Police Crimes Unit director Surawan identified the two men, using their initials, as 48-year-old MSS from Malaysia and 56-year-old KCH from the UK. The pair allegedly defrauded a Tangerang hotelier out of billions of rupiah.

The victim, who has been identified only as Andi, reportedly invested in an unnamed hotel in Badung in 2017 that was managed by the two foreigners. However, after noticing that no profits came out of the project for years, Andi’s team conducted a financial audit and found that IDR89 billion (US$5.7 million) had been embezzled.

Their findings were forwarded to the authorities on Oct. 20.

Police said MSS and KCH ignored multiple summonses for questioning. When cops went to their registered addresses in North Kuta, the pair was nowhere to be found.

“We’re still investigating the case,” Surawan said.

Under Indonesian law, both men might face up to five years behind bars for fraud.
