Police in Badung regency arrested three men on charges of statutory rape involving an 11-year-old child, who they gave money to in an attempt to coerce her into silence about the assault.

The victim’s father pressed charges on Aug. 21, after learning that his underage daughter had been assaulted as early as May of this year. The victim, identified as KIS, told her family that one of the suspects, identified as MS (19), raped her twice and gave her IDR100,000 (US$6.98), telling her not to tell anyone about the rape.

MS allegedly offered KIS up to other men, NS (21) and KJ (21), both of whom allegedly gave her IDR250,000 (US$17.45) and ordered her to keep the assault a secret.

“After the incidents, the [father] cannot accept that his underage child has been raped by the suspects and so he reported the incident to the police,” Badung Police Chief Leo Dedy Defretes said.

The three alleged pedophiles were arrested on Aug. 23, with police saying that the men were attracted to and lusted over KIS.

The three suspects have each been charged with violation of articles under the Child Protection Law, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
