1 killed after minibus falls off cliff in Bali’s Karangasem regency

A minibus transporting nine people plunged from a 30-meter-high cliff in Bali’s Karangasem regency yesterday afternoon, killing one passenger and injuring others.

According to reports, the passengers were a family from Buleleng regency on their way back home from an event. Witnesses at the scene said the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle and was unable to brake in time to prevent falling off the cliff, which is located in Bugbug Village.

“The car was returning from an event and fell off a cliff that was about 30-meter high,” Gusti Ngurah Eka, who heads the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) in Karangasem, said today.

Authorities said a 50-year-old woman, identified as LER, was found dead, while one other passenger, identified as 45-year-old KS, sustained heavy injuries from the incident. They were taken to the regional hospital in the regency, while seven other passengers, who sustained minor injuries, were taken to a local community clinic (Puskesmas).
