How many more cautionary tales are needed for people to be sensible while riding their bikes on the streets of Bali (i.e. wearing helmets)?

A deadly traffic accident occurred yesterday evening on Rama Semarapura Street in Klungkung at around 06:30pm between two motorcycles. The crash reportedly occurred in front of a gas station, leaving one injured while three others remain in critical condition per this article’s publication.

None of the victims were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, eyewitnesses said and later confirmed by the authorities.

Klungkung Police’s traffic unit chief Wahyu Joko Nugroho said the victims included IWS, 54, who was driving south with NWM, 52, on the back of his bike, as well as R, 37, who was heading toward the opposite direction with AM, 53.

IWS reportedly was leaning toward the west side of the road (the very lane R was driving on) and the collision could not be avoided.

“The four victims did not wear helmets,” Wahyu added.

IWS was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Klungkung Hospital due to suffering heavy trauma on his head. NWM, R, and AM suffered various injuries mainly on their head and limbs.
