Tabanan is a regency in Bali that is more central and west. The regency’s seat is in Tabanan city. The regency is home to one of Bali’s biggest tourist attractions: Tanah Lot Temple. Along with Uluwatu, Tanah Lot is regarded as one of the island’s most sacred temples. Being on the west coast, it’s also a prime spot for catching sunset. Another special place in Tabanan is Jatiluwih, a village with beautiful subak, terraced rice paddies. Bali’s second highest peak after Mt. Agung, Mt Batukaru is located in Tabanan. While it’s not wildly popular with trekkers, Batukaru does boast one of the island’s most sacred temples. And let’s not forget Bedugul and the gorgeous Lake Beratan and its Pura Ulun Danu temple that is illustrated on the back of Indonesia’s Rp 50k note.
