KUTA
Kuta is by far Bali’s best-known touristy hood—seriously, as in we should rename it “Touristland”. Located in the south, not so far from the airport, the beachy resort town is a magnet for backpackers and surfers and backpacking surfers with its hostels, clubs, and sandy beach—perfect for beginners. But it also has some pretty fancy resorts along the coast with premiere shopping, so you’ll find families there as well. If you want to get a piercing or tattoo whilst in Bali, there’s certainly no shortage of parlors waiting to do you up. Want to do some street shopping for stuff like cheap Bintang singlets and sunnies, then Kuta’s also your spot. Some people swear by it, but a lot of others hate it. Kuta’s certainly a polarizing spot and a favorite amongst a certain type of Aussie (aka bogans).
