KARANGASEM

Stretching to cover the most eastern part of Bali, Karangasem is home to some of Bali’s real gems that are off the beaten-path (as well as home to many of its arak, traditional liquor, makers). Divers explore the shipwreck of the USS Liberty in Tulamben and the majestic area of Amed, while beachgoers seek out Pasir Putih (White Sand Beach) and resort town Candidasa. The beautiful gardens of Tirta Gangga attract many travelers, and the towering Pura Lempuyang is also worth a trip. The “Temple of a Thousand Steps”, Lempuyang stands tall above the landscape and is truly majestic. Don’t forget the Taman Ujung Water Palace for three large pools, manicured gardens, and stony pathways.
