Gianyar regency is located in central Bali and is one of the more densely populated regencies on the island. While the regency seat is Gianyar, tourists will be most familiar with Gianyar because it’s home to Ubud. Said to be the cultural heart of Bali, Ubud is a booming jungle town where Balinese culture is celebrated. The town attracts all sorts of hippies, holistic health folk, yogis, vegans, and soul-searchers inspired by the book ‘Eat Pray Love’ and made even more famous by the movie under the same name starring Julia Roberts. After Denpasar and Badung, Gianyar is one of Bail’s more densely populated regencies. As a chunk of the regency does touch Bali’s eastern coast, one of Gianyar’s most famous beaches is the black sand Keramas Beach. Keramas has been the host of some epic surfing competitions and has also got a pretty major beach club.
