A mugger who targeted old women driving by themselves multiple times in Gianyar has been arrested.

I Wayan Sukadana, 25, alias Minggik, told police that he would rob people so he could buy tuak (palm wine) and carelessly spend money. He is understood to have been acting alone.

Gianyar Police Superintendent Waluya said the perp’s arrest stems from a woman’s report of being mugged on Tuesday. The report apparently prompted an investigation that quickly led to police tracking down Sukadana and arresting him at his home on Tuesday.

“There was no resistance, he only tried to run away. But the Buser (mobile detective) team were able to catch him,” Waluya told Tribun Bali

During police interrogation, Minggik confessed to committing similar mugging crimes as much as ten times.

“Most of the actions were done around one to three in the morning,” Waluya said.

“Based on this, we will further intensify patrols and raids in the early hours.”

When holding people up, Minggik would use a sharp weapon, such as a machete or knife to scare his targets into handing over money or valuable goods.

“According to our latest data, of the 10 victims, only four were reported. We expect people not to hide crime. If you see, hear, or experience crime, immediately report it. If you cannot go to the police station, report it to village police.”

Minggik will be facing charges carrying nine years prison time, says Waluya.
