DENPASAR

Bali’s capital city, Denpasar, is the busiest area on the island. Yes, even busier than Kuta. The provincial government is set up in the city and that’s where you’ll also find a number of foreign consulates. The streets are much wider (to make way for the pounding traffic) than everywhere else on the island and you’ll also feel more of a sense of urgency than you would otherwise on this relaxed island. However, don’t write it off too fast. You’ll find Renon to be an interesting spot with plenty of young enterprising Indonesians opening up cafes and trendy restaurants. And don’t forget the iconic Bajra Sandhi Monument, located right in front of the governor’s office, dedicated to the struggles of the Balinese people throughout history.
