A middle-aged local fisherman passed away over the weekend after falling off his boat while accompanying tourists dolphin sightseeing in the Kalibukbuk waters of Buleleng.

Police said that Ketut Sujana, 58, fell from his jukung (traditional Balinese fishing boat) at around 7am on Friday.

About half an hour before the tragedy, Ketut sailed off with six local tourists to witness the sea mammals, which often surface early in the morning.

At some point, the boat’s passengers realized that they had been circling around for a while before they looked back and saw Ketut’s body floating in the water. The passengers immediately shouted for help from other boats.

Ketut was taken to the Paramasidhi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“[We] suspected that the victim had heart conditions and at the time of death he did not wear a life jacket,” Buleleng Police’s spokesman I Gede Sumarjaya told Coconuts in a text message.
