Doctors believe a young man who passed away Monday morning may have died from rabies.
I Komang Kartawan, was declared dead at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar, after being hospitalized for two days, reports Tribun Bali.
“He died at approximately 9 am this morning,” his cousin told Tribun.
When admitted to the hospital, the 24-year-old reportedly presented signs of rabies such as fear of water and convulsions.
“The day before he died he had a ballistic rampage where he had to be tied up,” his cousin explained.
Kartawan was apparently bit by a dog a month ago, but symptoms of rabies only presented themselves in the past couple days.
Asked about the dog that bit Kartawan, his cousin said he did not know what happened to it, because it was not their pet.
It’s been a tough year for Bali with rabies, as 155 villages on the island have reportedly been affected by the virus in 2015.
Kartawan’s body will be returned to Bangli for burial.
