An Instagram celebrity from Jakarta has been arrested in Bali for alleged drug abuse, after police found crystal meth at a villa where she was staying in Kerobokan, North Kuta.
The Instagram celebrity, identified as 31-year-old JAF, was arrested along with a 39-year-old man identified as DS last Friday, the National Narcotics Agency in Bali Province (BNNP) said during a press conference today.
“From our investigation [the man] claimed to be an event manager at a famous club in Kuta. And the other one is a Jakarta resident and she claimed to be an Instagram celebrity who also sells skincare [products] online,” BNNP Bali Chief Gde Sugianyar Dwi Putra said.
JAF has around 149,000 followers on Instagram and is also the CEO of a skincare line based in the capital.
The two were arrested while they were using crystal meth, locally known as shabu, at a luxury villa located in Jalan Mertasari on Friday morning, police said. Their drug tests came out positive and officers also found packets of clear meth crystals and a couple of tablets during the arrest, all of which are believed to contain meth.
BNN suspects that the club DS works at might be involved in a larger drug trafficking ring, and is investigating the case further.
JAF and DS have been charged with violation of articles under Indonesia’s Narcotics Law, which carry a maximum prison sentence of 12 years.
