Most foreign tourists getting married in Bali are from China and Australia, says the chairman of the Bali Wedding Association (BWA).

“At first, (the market) was dominated by tourists from Australia, but now they’re competing with the number of tourists from China. They both love the beach atmosphere to hold their wedding parties,” BWA chairman, Ketut Agus Dion Satvika said on Sunday, as quoted by Republika.

Weddings held by foreigners are generally Western-style, but elements of Balinese culture are often incorporated, Satvika added.

The chairman predicts 2017 will be an even bigger year for destination weddings in Bali.

“This year, we forecast a growing number of weddings held in Bali, since January, which is usually a quiet month, had someone holding a wedding party every day.”

Meanwhile, Bali is growing in popularity as a wedding destination for tourists from Japan and India, says Satvika.

“They choose Bali, wanting a beautiful view.”
