In Ubud, the newest hotel on the block is Artotel Haniman-Ubud, which officially opened over this past weekend. The art-inspired boutique property, done up by Bitte Design Studio, sits just minutes away from Pura Taman Sari, Monkey Forest, and many of the town’s popular tourist attractions.

If you think the name sounds familiar, that’s because the Artotel Group has four other locations scattered around Indonesia. Its 22 guest rooms here, spread over two floors, come in Studio 20 (20 sqm), Studio 30 (30 sqm), and Studio 40 (40 sqm) options — all blending modern minimalism with local heritage motifs to create a quaint retreat, featuring sleek marble and wood design details.

Expect all the usual in-room amenities like coffee machines and Wi-Fi, as well as complimentary laundry services and daily shuttles to and from Ubud center. But the highlight of a stay here is, naturally, the Artotel tradition of showcasing Indonesian contemporary artists, so if you’re an art junkie, keep an eye out for the display of original murals by Kemal Ezedine.

The hotel may be a cozy one, but should you feel like staying in all day, well then, good news: The property is also home to a rooftop garden courtyard, a spa, and a restaurant and bar called Full Circle by EXPAT. Roasters, which serves food all day along with locally roasted coffees in the morning and cocktails in the evening.
