5 alternative ways to celebrate Mother’s Day in Bali

When it comes to thinking about what we should do to give Mom a little bit of gratitude and loving this Sunday, it’s tempting to turn to Google for spa and massage vouchers or make brunch reservations and resign to dining with the Mother’s Day crowds.

Here in Bali, we certainly have no shortage of spa, massage, or brunch spots. But we also have no shortage of unique activities that you can do while spending some quality time with Mom this Sunday. Here are 5 ideas:

1. Make your own perfume

Instead of buying the latest scent, why not create your own J’Adore Eau de Parfum or Chanel No.5 and take a perfume-making workshop with your mom? At L’Atelier Parfums et Créations, you can choose either a 3-hour or a 90-minute workshop and you get to keep your creation in a 30ml bottle.

2. Go to a laughter yoga class

Laughing makes everyone feel good. Period. And what better way to spend Mother’s Day with a few too many giggles?

3. Ride a horse at the Bali Equestrian Centre

Horse riding is not just for kids. There are over 40 horses at this place, with multi-lingual internationally accredited instructors and the option to take a village tour that lets you meander around rice paddies and local villages, if that’s your kind of thing. They also do beach tours down to Berawa beach, though unfortunately not on Sundays because of the crowds.

P.S. If you still insist on taking Mom to brunch, this place also has a nice restaurant.

4. Walk on the bottom of the Bali ocean

Literally. For ocean/marine-life enthusiasts who don’t have their scuba-diving certification or want to go underwater without getting their hair wet, Seawalker gives you the option to walk underwater and come face-to-face with sea-life. You will be accompanied by a trained instructor and given a special helmet. Makes for a memorable Mother’s Day photo!

5. Enjoy a weekend with the animals

For the mother/son or mother/daughter duo who loves animals, the Mara River Safari Lodge allows you to live amongst the animals. Okay, you still get very comfy, enclosed rooms and resort-like facilities. But a peek through your window will reveal zebras and rhinos chilling out and living the island life.
