5 fun things to do in Bali this weekend (May 13-15)

1. UBUD: Party like you mean it in Ubud. That’s right: Ubud.

The party scene is certainly not the first thing that comes to mind for most of us when we think of Bali’s quiet little cultural center, Ubud. But that doesn’t mean this jungle town doesn’t know how to get down. Once a month, Ubud is invaded with an epic pop-up daytime party, every time at a new secret location. This month’s Ubud Invasion happens to be on Saturday and it’s Disco Inferno themed. You gotta get tickets beforehand and the location will be announced on Friday, May 13 at 8 pm. What are you waiting for? Take a break from all those green smoothies and yoga and just boogie!

When: Saturday, May 14, 3-10 pm
Where: Secret location, to be disclosed
Here for tickets

2. SEMINYAK: Freak out on Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is not a day that you want to screw with, so as we see it, it’s probably just best to commit to a party celebrating the sinister day. Single Malt in Seminyak is hosting a “Scarry Good Bash” for their Second Whyskyliscious Freaky Birthday. Take your “ticket to hell” on the entrance and get a complimentary “Psych” cocktail. Gotta love the commitment to their freaky theme! Music will be going as well as bourbon pours and canapes. Mmm.

When: Friday, May 13, 9pm-late
Where: Single Malt, Jl. Kayu Aya no. 68

3. CANGGU: Help clean up Batu Bolong

It’s sad, but it’s all too common to see some of Bali’s most beautiful beaches littered with trash. Rubbish disposal is certainly a huge problem on the island, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something to help out. Put your abled bodies to use and join the Batu Bolong clean up crew for their weekly trash pick up event on Sunday afternoon.

When: Every Sunday at 4:30 pm
Where: Meet at Dennis Warung (little hut) next to surf board rentals, Batu Bolong Beach

4. BUKIT JIMBARAN: Rock out to the Hydrant at GWK

Now that they’re back from jamming out in Las Vegas, catch the Hydrant, Bali’s coolest rockabilly band at GWK, one of the island’s best outdoor concert venues. Old school jams that will just make you want to dance all while set in a gorgeous open air park with huge stone walls. Mantap. The show is to celebrate phone provider giant Telkomsel’s birthday and the concert is free, according to the Hydrant’s website

5. BUKIT: Go big and party hard at Karma Beach

Weekend warriors and house music fans, this one’s for you: head to Karma Beach, one of Bali’s most beautiful coastal venues for a new type of intense party experience with a fresh aspect on music & art. The two individuals that make up the driving force behind Shifter include (1) ’Pena’ Garcia- Portuguese DJ & Label Head of Techno/ Tech-House label ‘Flow’ since 2000 and (2) Supercozi – Japanese Music-Producer, DJ & Label Head of ‘Hypo=Espresso Records’ since 2005. So you can be darn sure the music will be on point.
