Desserts are good and all, but if chocolate takes first place in your heart, you’ll know the joy of sinking your teeth into a rich, decadent treat. No matter if it takes the form of cakes, ice cream, tarts, drinks, or pastries, chocolate is your go-to whenever the mood strikes. And it does, pretty often.

So take note of these five spots for desserts and drinks that hail cocoa — most of ’em are easy enough to access, which means you no longer have an excuse to gorge on chocolate bars that are anything less than divine.

With nine outlets across the island, Chocolate Origin has shared the cacao love with plenty of chocoholics. Most known for its chocolate ganache cake that comes in milk and dark variations, its stores tempt passersby with promises of dark chocolate gelato and chocolate shakes as well. They’re also known for their lava cake cups, which you can eat while on-the-go. The indulgent treat consists of a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a warm, gooey cake on top, so you can dig into the rich river of chocolate with gusto.

Nine outlets, including #B1-01/02 Bugis Junction, 230 Victoria St. 6337-1220. Daily 10:30am-10pm.

A name synonymous with fancy chocolate, Godiva’s got you covered with its assortment of chocolate boxes – if you’re willing to splurge for a sugar high, that is. The outpost at Ion has the most extensive product range by far, with everything from dipping chocolate and iced chocolate drinks to personalized hot chocolate, pastries, and soft serve. It’s a potential recipe for an overdose, but hey, at least it’ll be a very contented one.

Six outlets, including #B1-05 Ion Orchard. 6509-8924. Daily 10am-10pm.

Each store a different one, Laurent Bernard’s four branches in Singapore have one thing in common – a love for chocolate. At Collyer Quay, it offers gift boxes and pastries; meanwhile, the basement stall in Takashimaya proudly displays rows of bite-sized chocolates. And if you’ve ever strolled around Robertson Quay after dinner, you’d have seen people lounging around the riverside cafe, savoring cakes, coffees, and scoops of ice cream.

Oh, and when birthdays roll around, it’s handy to know the brand’s bestsellers include gluten-free pure chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse, raspberry chocolate truffle cake, and royal chocolate cake, a mix of dark choc and hazelnut.

Four outlets, including #01-011 Robertson Quay, 80 Mohammad Sultan Rd. 6235-9007. Mon 6pm-11pm, Tues-Thurs 1pm-11:30pm, Fri-Sat 1pm-1am, Sun 1pm-11pm.

A familiar name to any chocolate enthusiast worth their salt, Awfully Chocolate’s flagship cafe and bistro in the East is a haven for dessert devotees. Not only does the weekend brunch menu feature a chocolate toast option, the desserts here are all about chocolate, with the brand’s iconic chocolate banana cake featured alongside chocolate mille crepe, salted butterscotch brownie, white choc crème brulee, chocolate tiramisu, Nutella tart and… you get the picture.

As if that’s not enough, you can also get scoops of ice cream, chocolate truffles, or dark chocolate s’mores – and wash it all down with hot chocolate, iced chocolate, or coffee and chocolate drinks. Death by chocolate, that’s what this is.

131 East Coast Rd. 6345-2190. Mon-Thurs noon-11pm, Sat 9:30am-1am, Sun 9:30am-11pm.

The Dark Gallery

Like its name suggests, this cafe is fixated on dark chocolate. After its debut on our shores two years ago, the brand has expanded to three outlets since then. Using single origin chocolates and chocolate blends, the cacao lovers behind the brand have come up with every dessert you can dream of – from standards such as ice cream, cakes, macarons, and tarts to more unconventional goodies like frozen s’mores and savory chocolate drinks.

You’ll most likely return time and again to try a different chocolate-filled item, especially since the menu offers tasting ice cream and pastry platters for curious diners to sample desserts made of different cacao content from varying origins.

Three outlets, including #01-14 Funan, 107 North Bridge Rd. 6908-4086. Daily 10am-10pm.
