If you’ve ever returned to Singapore from your Bali trip excited about having found luscious loaves of sourdough in the hipster area of Canggu, you’d be excited to hear news that Starter Lab Bakery is coming to town in August. The duo behind the popular joint have apparently found a spot in a shop house on Havelock Road, where they’ll soon bake up a storm of crusty breads.

Even though it’s a relatively new brand, having surfaced just two years ago, the pair decided to expand to our shores, thanks to food enthusiasts from Singapore who displayed a keen interest in their products.

For those wondering what the big deal is, the breads have been known to attract carb lovers, and the kitchen is headed by Emerson Manibo, who has worked at NYC’s three Michelin-starred Per Se and famous names like Della Fattoria and Tartine Bakery & Cafe in California.

Even if you’re not the type to hunt down a bakery just for the bread, you may have sampled it, perhaps unknowingly, at sought-after eateries in Bali like Locavore and and Betel Nut. Or maybe you’ve nibbled on the loaves at its Camp Kilo Charcoal Club pop-up.

According to 8 Days, the outlet here will feature a takeaway booth for coffee and bakes, as well as a cafe corner to seat about 35 people.

When Starter Lab arrives, its menu will offer seven types of sourdough priced approximately between $12 and $18 for loaves that hover around the 1kg mark. Pastries, scones, and open-faced sandwiches will also be served, along with coffee brought in by Glasshouse at Chijmes. Flavors that the brand has supplied before include seeded wheat, rosemary and lemon with sea salt, and miso baguette.
