A local feline citizen has become a minor celebrity on Catspotting, a Facebook group for cat enthusiasts with over 157,000 members from all over the world. The cat in subject is being lauded for being an (alleged) adherent to Hinduism, thanks to the red bindi mark on its forehead.

Though it looked like the collared critter was simply vandalized with red marker (it was spotted in Yishun after all), the Singaporean who posted it played it off as being a “Hindu cat”. As part of the Facebook group’s game of sharing pictures of random cats being spotted, he joked in the post that this multi-ethnic nation hosts multi-ethnic cats — a post that has attracted over 1,000 likes.

It really could be that the cat’s owners placed the bindi on its forehead. Commenters wished the cat a happy Dussehra (which took place last Friday), the Hindu festival celebrated and observed on the tenth day in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin. Also known as Vijayadashami, the festival also marks the beginning of preparations of Deepavali.
