A massive Lego recreation of one of racing’s F-1’s most iconic cars has arrived in town just in time for the return of the Singapore Grand Prix next week.
The Lego Technic McLaren Formula 1 Pop-Up Experience will run from today till Oct. 2 just outside of Ngee Ann City shopping center.
This is the replica’s first pitstop in Southeast Asia. It is built to allow visitors to sit in the driver’s seat for photos.
The model is 5.7 meters in length and 2.4 meters in width. It was designed by Lego-certified professionals and the McLaren Racing team and created using 288,315 Legos that took 1,893 hours (about 2.5 months) to assemble.
There are three interactive stations at the popup. The McLaren Race Car Build station is where players can race against one another to assemble the official 42,141-piece Lego McLaren set, which is nine times smaller than the life-size build.
There’s also a Match & Build station to test players’ memory and speed and a photo station where you can get free photo printouts.
Lego merchandise like the 42,141 piece Lego Technic McLaren Formula 1 Race set, the 30,343 piece McLaren Elva polybag, the LEGO Speed Champion set and related Minifigures are all for sale.
The youngest ever British Formula 1 driver, Lando Norris, will also make a short appearance on Wednesday and will be giving out autographed prizes.
