A posh airport lobster joint is under investigation for being the source of a bad stomach flu.

Burger & Lobster at Jewel Changi Airport has been suspended indefinitely after 17 people who chomped on lobsters between May 7 and Sunday caught gastroenteritis, health officials announced last night.

Four were hospitalized while the rest recovered at home.

The Ministry of Health and Singapore Food Agency said that before reopening, food handlers from the London chain would have to retake and pass a food safety course and test negative for foodborne pathogens. The outlet’s food hygiene officer will also have to be recertified.

Also, the premise has to be spick and span with sanitized equipment and utensils.

Burger & Lobster did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment, though as of this morning a banner had appeared on its website declaring it was “SG Clean.”

After this story was published, a Burger & Lobster rep told Coconuts that they still don’t know what caused the stomach flu but are cooperating with the investigation.

“While we are unclear of the cause at this time, the management is in communication with the affected guests to ensure their speedy recovery and wellbeing,” the company statement said.
