Tune in to Singaporean social advocate’s take on gender and sexual identity Saturday in the first episode of a podcast dissecting some of the country’s debated topics.

Anthea Ong, a former non-elected member of parliament, launches this weekend Shades of Love, a series adapted from her eponymous 2018 book. Each episode will feature Ong and a guest discuss social issues such as mental health, poverty and LGBT rights.

Ong’s book 50 Shades of Love: Unearthing Who We Are was a memoir retelling 50 short stories of her journey through different forms of love. The podcast, will run 12 episodes, will add to the book by linking its chapters to current issues.

In Saturday’s episode, Ong will discuss gender and identity with Corinna Lim, executive director of gender and women’s rights group AWARE. Other prominent guests will include MP Raeesah Khan and playwright Alfian Sa’at. Controversial topics to be discussed include religion, abortion and the class divide.

Ong served as nominated member of parliament from 2018 to 2020 and has been very vocal about social issues in Singapore.
