More than 1,000 orchids are now exploding in color throughout Gardens by the Bay’s Cloud Forest conservatory for viewing (and smelling) through National Day on Aug. 9.
The Orchid Haven is hosting changing and permanent exhibits for the first time in several years at the newly opened Flight of the Moth Orchid, which includes hundreds of Phalaenopsis orchids – which look like flying moths – spanning over a dozen varieties on display.
“Our latest creation Orchid Haven is a way for our horticulturists to pay tribute to the nation on its 56th birthday, and amidst the current setback, the Flight of the Moth Orchid display expresses our confidence that Singapore will soar again in our battle against the pandemic,” the garden’s CEO Felix Loh announced in a news release.
The park said local horticulturists wanted to pack in more orchids from around the world to its existing orchid display, which was a third of its present size and focused on the national flower the Singapore Orchid, a hybrid known as Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim (formerly Vanda Miss Joaquim).
“With the growing popularity of Cloud Forest’s changing orchid displays, which have been bringing to Singapore a plethora of beautiful and sometimes rare orchids from Central and South America to East Asia for the past four years, horticulturists recognised the need to carve out more space to showcase orchids,” it added.

The Flight of the Moth Orchid is a tribute to the Phalaenopsis orchid that is a species of plants in the family Orchidaceae which resembles a moth in flight and are known for their vibrant colors and peculiar patterns. More than 800 of these orchids will be showcased cascading like a waterfall.
Seeing the show only requires admission to the Cloud Forest conservatory, which is available online at S$12 for adult residents and S$8 for child and senior residents.
