A 28-year-old police officer was found dead from a gunshot wound to his head yesterday night at Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC), the Singapore Police Force said today. The male police sergeant had reported for duty at 7:30pm on Sunday at 31 Yishun Central and drew his service pistol from the armory, the police explained.

He was later discovered alone with a gunshot wound to the head at the rest area of the NPC around 9:30pm. His service pistol lay next to him. The officer was brought unconscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and later succumbed to his injury at 10:26pm.

The police have classified the case as an unnatural death, with no foul play suspected. It’s currently investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department, and the police are aiding the family in their time of grief.

Just this year, a 48-year-old Aetos auxiliary police officers was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head at the Woodlands Checkpoint on Jan 10, and a couple months before that, a 23-year-old full-time police national serviceman died on Sept 9, a week after he was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
