Hey, hey, hey! In case you haven’t heard yet, vinyl is making a huge comeback. If you’re looking to build your collection, here’s a sweet opportunity.

Audio Pilipinas is hosting the first ever unified Record Store Day (RSD) celebration in the Philippines, with 30 of the country’s independent record stores participating in the event.

The celebration will be held at Buddha Bar in Makati, from 10 am to midnight on April 22, Saturday. Local bands and musical legends such as The Late Isabel, Hoochie Coochie Mikkie, The Black Vomits, Itchyworms and Ely Buendia’s Apartel will be there.

Audio Pilipinas is a Facebook-based homegrown group of music lovers and audiophiles in the Philippines. It’s “a melting pot of music-minded folks who are passionate about music and friendship.”

“This year, we hope to use RSD to promote the small and independent record stores in the Philippines and tie that in to our advocacy of helping underprivileged children through corporate sponsorships and donations,” said Reggie Halili, one of the administrators of Audio Pilipinas

Halili’s love affair with vinyl started with a song he heard on a jeepney decades ago. He called the radio station to ask about it. The very next day, he scored his very first Beatles album. He still listens to “Norwegian Wood” every chance he gets.

The vinyl scene in the Philippines is pretty interesting.

New and sealed records can sell from PHP1,500 up, but pre-loved records can go as low as PHP200. The average price is about PHP600-PHP800.

Halili shared that he once witnessed an entire record collection sell for as much as PHP3 million!

But hey, this doesn’t have to be expensive. If you’re just starting out, you can start with choosing records that connect to you first.

“Audio Pilipinas is newbie friendly too! We hold seminars and sessions every so often with various topics including music appreciation, value engineering and album reviews. We love music and eager to share it with anyone who wants to get started in this hobby,” Reggie told Coconuts Manila.

See you there?
